Derin Kraack
Committee Member
Derin was first elected Superintendent of Highways for the Town of Chenango in 2021 and is currently serving in his second term. His career with the highway department began in hands on roles, where he gained valuable experience in positions ranging from laborer to Motor Equipment Operator (MEO). This foundation has shaped his practical leadership style and deep understanding of
departmental operations.
In his role, Derin oversees the maintenance of 67.5 miles of town roads, supported by a dedicated team of nine full-time employees. He credits the department’s continued success to their commitment and professionalism, as well as the strong support of the Chenango Town Board.
Derin also serves as Vice President of the Broome County Town Highway Superintendents Association. In this capacity, he works alongside fellow superintendents to promote collaboration, share resources, and strengthen highway operations throughout the county.
A devoted family man, Derin is thankful for the unwavering support of his wife, Alicia, their two sons, and their growing family – which now includes a beloved daughter-in-law following their eldest son’s recent marriage. He considers his family to be his greatest source of motivation and strength.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, he enjoys staying active through sports, playing golf with his sons,
and boating with his family.
